A study companion, still taking shape

Some things need another question.

Shanum Rain is an education product in development for the moment when a subject feels close, but the connection is missing.

In development / Early stage

Working note / 01SR / 2026

I know the terms.

I do not know how they connect.

Start with the connection.

This page describes a direction, not a launched product.

01

The idea

The useful part may be the pause.

Most learning friction has a shape. A sentence stops making sense. A new term has nowhere to land. A person knows they are stuck, but not what to ask next.

“Tell me which sentence stopped making sense.”

A product direction for learning with more ownership.

A smaller question can open the page again.

Shanum Rain is being designed to stay with that moment. It should help a learner name the gap, work through one part, and keep the explanation in their own words.

02

The practice

A few rules for a useful companion.

The product is still being shaped. These are the decisions that keep it close to the way people actually learn.

01

Begin where it stopped

Start at the stuck point.

A learner should not have to retell an entire subject before they can ask for help with one paragraph.

02

Make the next step smaller

Use language that gives the idea somewhere to land.

Shorter explanations and concrete examples can make a difficult connection easier to inspect.

03

Leave room for ownership

Keep the learner's words in the process.

The companion can suggest a path, but the person learning should still recognize the conclusion as their own.

04

Name the edge

Show what still needs a human answer.

The product should say when a question needs a teacher, a colleague, a source, or more time.

03

For whom

For people trying to understand, not only finish.

The first audience is not a demographic segment. It is a familiar moment of work.

A

Learning alone

When you return to a subject after a long gap.

You remember the vocabulary, but the structure has gone quiet. A patient starting point matters.

B

Helping someone learn

When an explanation keeps missing the person in front of you.

A companion can help a mentor prepare another way into the same idea.

C

Working together

When a small team needs shared language.

People can use the same questions to turn unfamiliar material into a conversation they can continue.

04

Notes from the desk

Still becoming.

A short record of the product questions we want to keep visible while Shanum Rain takes shape.

01

On pace

A good explanation knows when to stop.

More words do not always create more understanding. The next question may be more useful than another paragraph.

02On trust

A companion should show its edges.

People deserve to know what came from their material, what was inferred, and what still needs checking.

03On practice

Understanding has to leave the screen.

The point is not to produce a polished reply. The point is to help someone continue without the companion.

05

Say hello

Tell us what you are trying to understand.

If you are learning, teaching, or making tools for better understanding, send a note. We are collecting the questions that should shape the first version.
